FC Barcelona has reaffirmed its leadership position in the global football industry by taking part in the panel Leading the Game: Management Strategies for Innovation in the World of Football, held on Wednesday, June 18, as part of Sports Summit Madrid 2025.

Manel del Río, Corporate Director at FC Barcelona, joined top executives such as Donna-Maria Cullen, Executive Director of Tottenham Hotspur, and Leonardo Giammaroli, Chief Global Business Development Officer at Napoli AC, in a high-level conversation moderated by Julio Senn, Partner at Senn Ferrero Asociados. Together, they discussed how elite clubs are transforming their business strategies to remain competitive, sustainable, and culturally relevant in an ever-evolving sports landscape.

Del Río focused his remarks on FC Barcelona’s innovative financial and commercial strategy, with special emphasis on Espai Barça, the Club’s most ambitious infrastructure project to date. He detailed the unique financing model behind the €1.45 billion redevelopment, which includes the modernization of Spotify Camp Nou and a new hospitality experience that brings in additional revenue streams, such as VIP assets and innovative sponsorship models.

The panel tackled key issues in today’s football industry, such as the consistency of financial fair play regulations across different countries, the evolving value of broadcasting rights, and the balance between sporting success and financial performance. Del Río stressed the importance of creating long-term value not only for investors but also for fans—through immersive matchday experiences and emotionally resonant partnerships.

The Global Sports Summit SSM, promoted by MADCUP, is an event that connects the world of sports with its associated industries, fostering innovation, networking, and the development of new business opportunities across the sports ecosystem.
